With MaD Hatters being the biggest League of Legends (LoL) clan in the 2015 Telkom DGL Summer Leg, it might be a little overwhelming to keep up with all the names, especially when they are switched up. Luckily, so far only the Premier Division team’s name has changed. Being the most well-known team means they can afford to change up their name and not be confused with being a ‘new’ team.
MaDJabberwocky, now MaDRaven, was quite a well-known team in the LoL scene and although they didn’t make it into the top of the Premier Division last year, they are still pushing to take the big victory at the 2015 Telkom DGC at the end of the season.
Why the change though? Telkom Gaming got hold of Anneke ‘MaD Zania’ Le Roux, captain of MaDRaven, with that exact question, although the answer may not be the one you are looking for. Le Roux takes a quote from Alice in Wonderland, what her clan is based around, as part of her answer:
“Why is a raven like a writing desk? Because neither is ever approached without caws (cause). Because it can produce a few notes, though they are very flat; and it is never put with the wrong end in front!” She goes on to say, “[m]ind you, my team always sings on a flat note. Also, ravens are cool.”
This is a rather strange reason for changing the name of your team. The only real justification for changing from a huge menacing monster, though its head gets lopped off, to a raven is that “ravens are cool”.
Le Roux has also said that the reasoning behind the Alice in Wonderland theme, although more on the adult side of the story, came about because the players of MaDRaven (then part of the Unleash Lama clan) always thought of themselves as the Mad Hatter’s tea party and given the opportunity to start their own can, they made their thoughts a reality.
MaDRaven is currently in the Premier Division of the 2015 LoL Telkom DGL Summer Leg and will be looking to keep itself in the top half of the results log, to keep out of relegation. So far, for the past year, MaDRaven has been able to end up in fifth place after the leg ends, though they are looking to climb the ladder even higher during the 2015 Summer Leg. The team has so far faced the more skilled teams in the Premier Division, with just a couple more to go before they can relax.
