DGL Amber Showdown Sees Four Off to the Community Shield

With four teams having secured their place at the second DGL Community Shield, goals shift in the Amber Showdown as teams will now do battle for both bragging rights and seedings. These teams will join the next four victors from the Ruby Showdown in a bid to secure their place at the illustrious DGL Masters Finals where they stand the chance of taking home a slice of the R550,000 prize pool.

Tonight marks the kickoff the Amber Showdown semifinals with the finals set for Monday, 15 May. Let’s take a look at the team’s who will be duking it out for a favourable seed in this week’s competition:

The four remaining teams:

Online Kingdom – The squad has come a long way since they started in the Amber Genesis Proving Grounds where they managed to defeat multiple teams and take first place against VxP BlaZe. Now, their journey continues as they are one of the Community Shield qualifying teams, but the question remains: do they have what it takes to reach the finals?

WRG Aspire –  Yet another team that has managed to climb the ranks in the proving grounds, this time from the DO-OR-DIE series where they were knocked out in the semifinals courtesy of PewPew Gaming but managed to make it through to this Showdown in the end. The WRG Squad is the only team in this semifinal not to have made any of the previous cup finals however, this time they will not be facing PewPew for revenge, but taking on Online Kingdom for the fight to the finals tonight, marking perhaps the perfect opportunity to prove themselves.

PewPew Gaming – One of the Amber favourites who have shown a dominating performance in the DO-OR-Die cup, taking down WRG Aspire and defeating Digital Anarchy to take first place. A good deal of pressure has been placed onto this team, given their past results and talented lineup, as one would expect a fairly dominant showing as they go up against a more unknown but still talented team later today. With mounting pressure to succeed, will PewPew be able to secure themselves a cup victory or will the pressure prove too much to handle?

VxP BlaZe – The squad that surprised me the most when looking at their results, the roster has some potential and lurking talent in their line-up. The team was last seen in the Genesis proving grounds where they met Online Kingdom in the final, losing out on the title of champions with a 2-0 loss. The team also had a tough journey in that cup which leads me to believe they could go all the way, as they took down BzK Kingz and even VnR Rejects. My eyes will be glued to this new upcoming squad.

Telkom Gaming got a brief chance to chat with two of the teams competing in tonight’s semifinal as they prepare to do battle:

PewPew Gaming co-manager and player LimbZ (Wayne Moorcroft):

“We are happy with our recent performances that put us in the community cup. Having won the DO-OR-DIE cup gave us more confidence going into this cup and the next one. Our goal is to keep on putting up winning performances and improving game by game.”

“We know that VxP BlaZe is a hard hitting team with some talented youngsters and we are looking forward to a tough game tonight, knowing we need to be on point if we want to pull it through”

Online Kingdom player AlphA (Janco Botes):

“We’re pretty relaxed about our performance in the Amber Showdown. We’ve been getting good results all round and are just taking it as it comes and playing our hearts out.”

“The last time we played WRG Aspire we had two maps that were incredibly close (both 16 – 14) and then we choked a bit on the decider map. But, going into the game, we feel confident but aware; they are top of the logs in the Premier Division and are set to give us a run for our money.

Should be exciting!”
