Damage Control (DC) is a South African eSports organization and currently fields players and teams in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Dota 2.
Damage Control was founded by Daniel “Gandalf” van Flyman, in 2001, predominantly as a Counter-Strike clan. Gandalf later brought on brothers Jannie ‘Hellhound’ Van Niekerk and Riaan ‘stYle’ Van Niekerk, who formed the core of the team. Veteran player Harry ‘incin’ Apostoleris has also enjoyed a long standing relationship with DC.
The Van Niekerk brothers are part of a long standing history of successful-brother partnerships in the Digital Gaming League (DGL), and have regularly found themselves in head-to-head showdowns with historical rivals Bravado Gaming, another brother-led team featuring the Hadjipaschalis.
DC first rose to prominence when the they travelled to Daejeon, South Korea to compete at the 2002 World Cyber Games (WCG) in Counter-Strike 1.6. The team returned to WCG a year later and also competed at numerous international events including ESWC and KODE5 in France and Russia respectively.
In local competition, DC took first place at the 2011 Digital Gaming Championships (DGC) in Counter-Strike 1.6, defeating Bravado in the final. The team later added another brother-pair, Tyrone ‘Explicit’ Lautre and Christopher ‘g4mbit’ Lautre, to the line-up in early 2014.
Gandalf left the MGO in early 2015 to live in the United States while incin returned to the main roster after a near seven-year hiatus. Senior player Alastair ‘Lag Beast’ Bearman currently serves as acting CEO is Gandalf’s absence.
