Call of Duty WW2 Confirmed, More News Coming this Wednesday

Call of Duty fans the world over were excited to hear rumours that their annual dose of FPS may be returning to a simpler time, World War 2 in specific, as the world got a glimpse of what was speculated to be the next instalment of the Call of Duty franchise last month. The good news for fans is that Sledgehammer Games, the developers behind the next instalment, have finally confirmed the series would indeed see a return to the most widespread war in human history.

The official confirmation for the upcoming shooter came via Sledgehammer Games, the developers behind other CoD titles like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Advanced Warfare, who also revealed that more information on the title would be coming to fans via a live stream scheduled for Wednesday 26 April, with the stream set to kick off at 10 am PT (19:00 SAST).

However, the reveal of additional details seems to not have been enough for some fans as it has also been revealed (thanks to some leaked marketing material) that the title will be released on 3 November 2017 and that there would be a “private beta” for players who preorder the title. The promotional material also includes some general descriptions of certain aspects of the title including:

  • Game Description: Call of Duty returns to its roots with Call of Duty: WWII–a breathtaking experience that redefines World War II for a new gaming generation. Land in Normandy on D-Day and battle across Europe through iconic locations in history’s most monumental war. Experience classic Call of Duty combat, the bonds of camaraderie, and the unforgiving nature of war against a global power throwing the world into tyranny.
  • Campaign Description: Call of Duty: WWII tells the story of an unbreakable brotherhood of common men fighting to preserve freedom in a world on the brink of tyranny. Players enlist in a gritty intense journey through the battlegrounds of war. The campaign features bold, lifelike visuals with the kind of blockbuster cinematic authenticity that only Call of Duty can deliver.
  • Multiplayer Description: Call of Duty: WWII multiplayer engages players grounded, fast-paced combat across many of World War II’s most iconic locations. Players will also enjoy exciting new ways to interact and socialise with their friends and the Call of Duty community.
  • High-Octane Co-Operative: Call of Duty: WWII’s co-operative mode unleashes a new and original story. Play with your friends in this next-level standalone game experience full of unexpected, adrenaline-pumping moments.

With the Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare trailer having attained new levels of infamy, having earned itself the ‘honour’ of having one of the “highest dislike ratios on a YouTube video”, Activision will surely be looking to turn heads for a different reason as we edge ever closer to the unveiling of what fans are hoping will be a “new era” for the franchise. Whether a return to the trenches will see a turning point for the series is yet to be seen, however, if fan excitement is anything to go by, they certainly seem to be heading in the right direction.
